EV1Servers.Net this week told its users that it had
their interests in mind when it signed an
intellectual-property license with The SCO Group Inc. to use Red Hat Linux. However, that hasn't stopped some of those users from threatening to leave the Web-hosting company over the deal.

In the open-source community, the rumor that just won't die claims that Microsoft is funding The SCO Group's legal actions against Linux. On Thursday, those allegations rose again with reports of a memo that links Microsoft with a financial backer of SCO.

As part of its initiative to put Linux on the desktop, IBM Corp. wants to migrate Microsoft Corp.'s Office suite to Linux. Microsoft said it's not involved and suggests that IBM might do it by emulation.

ReactOS 0.2 Final is now available. ReactOS is an Open Source operating system that aims to be compatible with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) applications and drivers. The main functionality change is that of booting into the graphical ROS Explorer. The changelog details the complete list of changes for this release and screenshots are available.

The free Linux distribution, Debian GNU/Linux, has become the fastest growing distribution in the period from July last year when measured by counting active sites which contain the name of a Linux distribution in the Apache Server header.

As computer jobs have been diluted in the U.S. with lay-offs and being sent away to other countries, the implementation of Linux has hardly slowed down. Linux, originally of foreign origins, is quickly becoming the operating system to keep jobs in America.
In the 80s and mid-90s, it was computer people that made Netware the dominant server operating system, and it was also computer people that overturned the Netware operating system with NT because Microsoft offered a cheaper alternative, promising higher wages for all those that became MCSEs. At the very first sign of economic decline these same people were the first sacrificed and lost their jobs to cheaper wages and alternative methods of outsourcing. Monopolizing on the fears of corporate America, many companies like Microsoft began to market their new product line on the premise that purchasing their software will allow you to reduce your IT department even further. Or at least that's the impression that is given from the Windows 2003 commercials.
