The IA64 processor family is the fruit of a common effort between HP and Intel to introduce a replacement for the venerable but outdated Intel386 platform. The IA64 was designed from the ground up for excellent performance in the server environment as well as in the workstation space.

Linux : Reviews : Hancom Office 2.01 Standard for Linux
Posted: ( Wed 24th Apr 2002 12:56:13[PM] UTC )
Hancom Office 2.01 is the latest version from the Korean company Hancom Linux, released only a few days ago. The company used to offer a Windows version of their product, but they have since completely focused on the Linux platform, even though their product is pretty portable as it is based almost solely in the Qt 3 tooklkit.

Linux : Reviews : SuSE Linux 8.0 Beta
Posted: ( Fri 19th Apr 2002 09:07:40[AM] UTC )
All told, SuSE have created another excellent rendition of their popular Linux distribution. The installation, even (or, rather, especially) on a laptop, was smooth and worked without a hitch -- no small feat for installing Linux on a nearly new laptop, an undertaking often more likely to end in aggravation than success.

Linux : Reviews : SuSE Linux eMail Server III
Posted: ( Tue 2nd Apr 2002 07:55:57[AM] UTC )
SuSE\'s Linux eMail Server III has an amazing number of features integrated into its GUI, including all of the DNS functions for handling virtual domains and hosts. If I were a brand new mail administrator this program would save me hours and hours of fussing with Sendmail and BIND and numerous other tools.

Linux : Howtos : Using CUPS with Gimp-Print
Posted: ( Sat 16th Mar 2002 06:05:08[AM] UTC )
Printing under Linux has been advancing in the last year or two. I hadn\'t really been paying much attention to this because, to be honest, I am not a heavy-duty printing person. I had, at the time, just a simple epson dot matrix printer that worked fine enough with ghostscript, although the command line was a little complex.

Linux : Howtos : Linux Optimization and Fine Tuning
Posted: ( Sat 9th Mar 2002 09:12:07[AM] UTC )
I am sure almost all users of the Linux OS have heard or read, at one time or other, how Linux can and is being run on old 486s with just 16MB of RAM. And if you are (un)lucky enough to know some Linux guru, he would surely have boasted of this fact (and probably more than once). Upon hearing/reading this, the question that most surely pops up in a normal user\'s mind is, \"Hey, how come my Celeron with 64MB of RAM is so slow?\" Don\'t worry, help is here.

Linux : Articles : Linux system development on an embedded device
Posted: ( Sat 9th Mar 2002 09:11:42[AM] UTC )
Especially if you\'re just starting out in embedded development, the wealth of available bootloaders, scaled-down distributions, filesystems, and GUIs can seem overwhelming. But this wealth of options is actually a boon, allowing you to tailor your development or user environment exactly to your needs. This overview of embedded development on Linux will help you make sense of it all.
