If you're still lumbering along with the antique Linux Loader LILO, you really ought to consider migrating to GRUB, the Grand Unified Bootloader. FreeOS : Howtos : Writing portable shell scripts
Posted: ( Sat 6th Mar 2004 02:30:30[AM] UTC )
Shell scripts are a popular choice for writing small programs that do file manipulation. They are generally portable across platforms, but there are a number of things that can make a shell script work fine on one machine and fail on another. This article reviews some of the issues shell programmers may run into when trying to write widely portable scripts.

Linux : Articles : Ten Things Small Businesses Need To Know About Linux
Posted: ( Thu 26th Feb 2004 05:46:51[PM] UTC )
Not so long ago, Linux was only for the technically adept. Then large enterprises claimed it as their own — only they possessed internal resources aplenty to confront its complexity. These days, however, more and more small- and mid-sized businesses are moving to the fastest-growing Operating System (OS) for good, solid reasons — and they aren't looking back.

Posted: ( Thu 26th Feb 2004 05:46:21[PM] UTC )
To the outsider, and even to me for some time, the various lawsuits involving the SCO Group follow a relatively simple story line. I'm not a lawyer, but after many interviews with the involved parties and lawyers, the case boils down to divergent interpretations of the subject matter.

In a recent article over at PCMag.com John Dvorak said: "Although nobody has been able to smuggle out a single screenshot of the top-secret IBM Linux desktop OS often referred to as Blue Linux I have friends who have seen it. I am assured that it not only exists, but is being used by large numbers of IBMers. 'They are going through a process of eating their own dog food right now,' I was told."
