This version supports local mailboxes, invludes basic polishing up, lots of bug fixes and timed background mail checking. Some mime processing fixes arte also incorporated. It includes downloadable binaries for Linux, BSD and Solaris. Plus source files are available in the download section as well as as in CVS.

Bad economy's good for open source
Open source is much more than Linux. The melding of the open-source development model and a capitalist economy will bring the most exciting changes to computing that we've ever witnessed. The first change we'll see is investment in open-source technology that's based on solutions and not an operating system.
Samba NT Domain Controller
The domain concept is much better than the traditional workgroup concept. One of the primary benefits is having a centralized password database on the Primary Domain Controller. Once authenticated, you can access any of the shares in the domain, without having to re-authenticate yourself.

IBM plays favourites with Linux distros
The snag in IBM's "preferred partner" strategy for distributors is that Big Blue might be perceived as taking a paternalistic attitude to the Linux market place and picking favourites that might alienate others in the open source community.
Pine: for email and Internet news
Pine is a well-known *nix email program which also does Usenet. It is a command-line full-screen application, and runs well in an xterm, too. It's been around since before 1992. Available as both source and binary (for various platforms, including Microsoft Windows), Pine is a well-supported application with a large user base, FAQs, and mailing lists.
Metrowerks ports CodeWarrior for PlayStation 2 to Linux
At the Game Developers Conference in Santa Clara, Metrowerks revealed that it is porting its CodeWarrior for PlayStation2 tools to Linux. It is demonstrating an alpha release of the software at the conference and expects to have the software ready for commercial release mid-year this year.
Virtual file system Part 1
Virtual File System is an interface providing a clearly defined link between the operating system kernel and the different File Systems. The VFS supplies the applications with the system calls for file management (like “open”, “read”, “write” etc.), maintains internal data structures (the administrative data for maintaining the integrity of the File System), and passes tasks onto the appropriate actual File System. Another important job of the VFS is, performing standard actions.
